Tiller Safety Tips
Tillers are powerful earth-churning machines. They break up, mulch, and aerate soil with deep-cutting blades that extend deep into the ground.
Equipment Safety
- Don’t make a machine work harder than it was designed.
- Clear the land of debris and plants before loosening the soil with your tiller.
- Gas-powered tillers require engine service, which includes changing the oil
- Clean or replace air filters after every 25 hours of work.
- Check the transmission fluid level, as defined in the service manual.
- All modern tillers have a clutch that must be grasped to set the tines in motion. When released, the tiller stops turning.
Personal Safety
- Always read the manufacturer's operator manual.
- Carefully follow all safety and operation rules.
- All gas-powered tillers are noisy. Wear hearing protection.
- Always wear safety glasses when using a tiller.
